INTEGRATING OUR CONTENT WITH YOURS
Tamara Greenleaf, CMO, OnBoard Yourself

OnBoard Yourself is a well-structured program that can teach your new hires the basic business knowledge, skills and attitude they need to become independent, productive employees quickly.

DON'T become a ‘helicopter company'! Don't take charge of your new hires' work lives like their parents and professors did their personal and academic pursuits. It's important that new hires take responsibility for their professional development and success. Our article ‘Set Onboarding Goals and Track Progress' talks more about how do this well.

By design, OnBoard Yourself content is generic, not aimed at any particular industry or company culture. Used by itself, OnBoard Yourself will still get your new hires organized, asking smart questions, networking with the right people and adding value faster than you ever thought possible.

That said, combining our proven program with content specific to your company is a sure-fire way to accelerate your new hires' progress and success.  Here are a few examples of content to include in a new-hire onboarding program.

  • Video ‘Welcome Message' from your company or division's chief executives.
  • Webcasts of events like shareholders' meetings and quarterly analyst phone calls.
  • Links to customer reviews about your products/services and why they buy from you.
  • Interviews and posts from peers about what it's like to join your company.
  • Organizational chart showing where the new hire fits in and who their coworkers are.
  • Current status reports on projects new hires are likely to be involved in.

As we said in our article ‘Engage Gen Y New Hires Immediately On Their Own Terms', you want to have a variety of up-to-date content that your new hires can explore at their own pace in their own order and review as many times as they want.

And it's best if this content is digital: podcasts, videos, elearning courses, games, texts, blogs and online discussion forums. Millennials have grown up relying on technology to learn and live. In school and life, they watch videos, listen to interviews, read books, play games, etc., to learn. Your onboarding process should follow this same pattern. Otherwise, you look out of date and ineffective.

“But We Don't Have An Onboarding Program Today”

No problem. Companies with little in place today frequently use OnBoard Yourself as a template to fill out or even create their own onboarding programs. The topics we cover and lessons we teach are key knowledge and skills new hires need to succeed.

Buy your new hires subscriptions to OnBoard Yourself or hire us to create you a new-hire portal, and find content internally to pair with our program and lessons. This lets your new hires know specifically what to work on at your company. We've done the heavy lifting and you can use your time to create the critical business-specific content new hires crave.

“We Have Lots of Content, But It's Scattered All Over the Company”

We hear this a lot! Creating a centralized new hire portal is a great way to keep your content organized and available to new hires regardless of where they are or when they start.

The result is more consistent onboarding and performance. You won't hear “Nobody told me that!” anymore. In addition, a dedicated portal sends a powerful message to your new hires that your company understands their situation and has allocated resources to help them succeed.

Our proven program can help you organize your content by topic and time. Instead of the usual one-week shotgun approach to onboarding, your new hires will learn what they need when they need it. The right information at the right time. They'll be less overwhelmed and more productive.

“We Have a Solid Program and Want to Add Your Content”

Fantastic! If you have an existing platform like SharePoint or a learning management system (LMS), you can license the OnBoard Yourself process and host it on your company server. Send new hires to your existing portal instead of yet another one! Link our content to your existing onboarding program structure to make the new hire experience at your company even better.
